Wood Floor Refinishing
Wood Floor refinishing allows for greater flexibility and control in attaining your desired look through the selection of finishes, stains and sheen levels.
Bona floor finishes are non-toxic water-based
coatings.
The main difference between toxic solvent based coatings and non-toxic water-based coatings is the amount of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) that evaporate as the finish dries.
Low VOC levels in Bona products mean you do not have to vacate your home during application because of solvent fumes or health concerns from the effects of toxic chemicals.
We work with non-toxic water based, burnished oil and natural hard wax stains and finishes.
Whether you’re aiming for high shine, rich colour, slip resistance or durability, Bona has the ideal surface treatment for all types of floors.
Bona finishes meet the requirements of the Green Building Council of Australia’s (GBCA) Green Star rating scheme.
The Bona Certified Contractor Program (BCCP) is by invitation only. Invited Certified Contractors are industry professionals who demonstrate expertise with all Bona product systems and who demonstrate professionalism in their work practices.
Members of the program are required to accurately specify Bona non-toxic finishes. Solvent-based finishes or other products should only be used if specified by an architect or property owner.
The Bona web site has more information about the Bona Certified Contractor Program.
FAQ
How do you tell if wood floors Need to be refinished?
Do a Water Test. Pour a spoonful of water onto the floor. If it forms droplets that stay on the surface of the wood, the floor finish is still good. If the water is slowly absorbed into the wood, the finish is worn and needs to be restored.
Can wood floors be refinished without moving all furniture?
It is impossible to refinish a floor with furniture in the rooms. All furniture items must be removed from the areas to be completed. Where areas are continuous, all refinishing must be done at the same time. Refinishing timber floors cannot be done piece meal, you cannot do one room at a time.
What to do with furniture when refinishing floors?
Put your furniture anywhere that isn’t getting new flooring, such as a garage, storage shed, shipping container or the neighbours.
How long do you have to stay off hardwood floors after refinishing?
We recommend waiting at least 24 hours before you walk on your floors– and 48 hours is even better. Start with socks only and keep pets off the floors for a few days. Wait at least two days for water-based finishes and four days for oil-based finishes before carefully returning furniture back into the room.
When can area rugs be put back after refinishing?
Wait 3 weeks before putting area rugs on newly refinished/finished hardwood floors.
