FAQ
Can I sand my floors myself?
Sanding wood floors is a time consuming but relatively easy procedure. Sanding wood floors & refinishing yourself will definitely save money, and even an inexperienced homeowner can likely do a better job than the lowest bidding handyperson who quotes on it
Do you have to clean floor before sanding?
You need a pristinely clean floor before sanding, so sweep it and then dust mop it to get up all debris and dust. Make any necessary repairs to gouges and cracks in the floor before sanding.
Can you walk on floors after sanding?
We recommend waiting a minimum of 24 hours before you walk on your floors– and 48 hours is even better. Start with socks only and keep pets off the floors for a few days. Wait at least two days for water-based finishes and four days for oil-based finishes before carefully putting furniture and back into the room.
Can you damage wood by sanding?
You should never sand across grain patterns, as this could cause permanent damage to the wood that you may not be able to repair. When the pencil marks in the divot begin to disappear, it’s time to stop sanding
How many times can floor be sanded?
Each sanding removes around 1/32 of an inch of your floor’s surface. Most solid hardwood planks are thick enough to be refinished up to ten times.
